The aim of the BeeContour project is to develop and implement cost-efficient and feasible strip cultivation systems to promote species of bees and other pollinator insects in the agricultural landscape. In addition to pesticides and the choice of crop plants, the size of the field and the structural richness of the landscape are among the most important control variables for the diversity and performance of pollinator insects. Large fields with a narrow crop rotation in cleared landscapes pose a threat to biodiversity in general and pollinator insects in particular. For this purpose, strip cultivation systems are being developed and implemented which, by increasing the diversity of crops in space and time, improve the quality of the habitat and the food base for pollinator insects significantly. The arable fields are additionally upgraded by the following cultivation measures: enhancing diversity of cultivated plants and catch crops, careful use of plant protection and weed management as well as staggered green forage harvest to close gaps in the forage of the bees.
