Improvement of nitrogen efficiency of winter oilseed rape hybrids by extension of genetic diversity
Project
Project code: 22014517
Contract period: 01.01.2019
- 31.12.2021
Budget: 413,381 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: rapeseed, genetic diversity, nitrogen efficiency, renewable ressources
The overriding main objective of the project is to increase the sustainability of rapeseed oil production by permanently reducing the resources required for oilseed rape production and increasing the yields per hectare. The project presented here offers the strategy of improving the ecological footprint of bio-based fuel production by broadening the gene pool and reducing the use of nitrogen fertilizer in the medium term through improved varieties. In this context, the project aims to make a unique contribution not only to preserving and characterizing an extremely diverse and valuable collection of old winter rapeseed genotypes, but also to preparing the implementation of trait donors into breeding activities and thus, leading to promising benefit in breeding programs.
