Application, Evaluation and Communication of Digital Technology – a cooperation between family-oriented agriculture and practical educational institutions (Diabek)

Project

Project code: 28DE110A18
Contract period: 01.10.2019 - 30.09.2024
Budget: 1,244,994 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: digitalization

This project proposal addresses concerns about the application of digital tools in agriculture and aims to identify them in a structured way. Together with farm managers , solutions for site specific farming will be implemented in incremental steps. The primary focus lies on using existing equipment rather than developing new technology or closed box solution . The 'open nature' of digitization is to be further enhanced by the consistent inclusion of open source data and tools and thereby providing an environment to implement cost effective and efficient cultivating systems in farms, which managers are able to track as well. For the consortium behind the proposal, achieving an 'open digitization environment' on the farms without additional entry barriers is the basic prerequisite for a timely implementation of digital procedures in practical agriculture. Objective Z1 of the project is to point out approaches that overcome technical challenges in the use of digital solutions for site-specific management and to reduce problems caused by inadequate knowledge or the lack of competencies of farm managers through knowledge transfer. Objective Z2 is to evaluate digital solutions with respect to environmental and resource protection as well as to identify potentials for increasing the social acceptance of modern, digitized agricultural cultivation systems. Objective Z3 is the incorporation of experience gained during test operations in a concept for training programs and thus to create a multiplier effect in the broad practice. AP 1.1 Implementation of digital solutions on selected farms: Selection of test farms; Identify and evaluate existing equipment and status of implementation of site-specific management concepts on test farms; design of a development plan with farm managers for the utilization of the existing technical equipment. AP 1.2 Evaluation of implemented digital methods: Evaluation of chosen strategies and techniques based on methods of on-farm research; design and implementation of on-farm trials to increase plant managers' confidence in digital techniques; enrich existing data with additional by laboratory analysis; Economic evaluation of field trials and applied technologies. AP 2.1 Assessment of digital solutions in terms of environmental and resource protection: optimization potential of digital technologies in terms of resource efficiency; Evaluation of the environmental impact. AP 2.2 Consumer Survey on Digital Solutions in Agriculture: Analysis of social attitudes and expectations regarding digital solutions in agriculture; Development and implementation of a communication concept for knowledge transfer and dialogue with the public. AP 3.1 Development and implementation of training and workshops for farmers: Development of training programs for consumers, beginners and professionals in digital agriculture. AP 3.2 Development and Implementation of Modern Interaction Systems: Development of target-group-oriented module collections or webinars for self-study; development of an online self-assessment tool with the consortium 'DiWenkLa'
