The participants of the innovation network will dedicate several meetings to the task of developing impulses for future-oriented and innovative sow management. The aim of a first network meeting will be to formulate the requirements for future sow management for the three production areas 'breeding center', 'waiting area' and 'farrowing area' and to highlight concrete challenges. Especially against the background of animal welfare, animal health and animal husbandry as well as under consideration of possible effects on the environment, management and economy as well as occupational health and safety, the requirements will be elaborated. On this basis, the technically and structurally necessary changes and the already existing approaches/partial solutions, e.g. from the overall farm husbandry concept, will be discussed in a second step. The network will assess the already existing evaluation criteria of the Expert Group I for this specific objective and, if necessary, make appropriate adjustments and extensions. Following these development and evaluation processes, the network will work out final concepts for sustainable sow management in a joint meeting. From the expert meetings of phase 1, the questions to be investigated for phase 2 will be identified. The two expert groups will meet on two consecutive days at Haus Düsse. First, Expert Group I will meet to outline the requirements for a sustainable and innovative management of sows. Subsequently, Expert Group II will design housing systems and concepts for the three production areas of sow management. Existing work, e.g. from the working group on the 'Gesamtbetriebliche Haltungskonzept', will be taken up and, if necessary, expanded or adapted. Finally, both expert groups will meet again to discuss the work of Expert Group II and to jointly adopt the results. The core network participates in all meetings of the expert groups and meets again both before and after
