Prediction of potential embryotoxic effects of drugs and xenobiotics by means of analysis of xenobiotic-caused disruptions of cellular signal transductions pathways in human non-embryonic stem cells.
Project
Project code: 0314 E
Contract period: 01.08.2008
- 31.12.2009
Budget: 88,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
The short project aims at developing a high throughput routine method for predicting embryotoxic effects of chemicals, particulary with regard to the need of toxicity testing of chemicals resulting from the EU REACH regulations. Present testing of chemicals for teratogenic activity uses large numbers of animals and is extremely cost- intensive. Thus, the development of a cell culture system aiming to predict potential embryotoxic activity of chemicals as an alternative to animal experiments ist the main focus of the project.
