'The aim of the project is the detailed investigation of the iodine intake of preschool children in long-term trend, as there is for this very vulnerable population and internationally are few reliable data. Against the background of the expansion of day care and preschool facilities with appropriate meals offered here is an urgent need to current, but also to analyze the past iodine closer to possible future deficits of this trace element that is responsible for the maturation of the brain and intelligence of our children largely co-responsible, to be able to counteract in good time.
As a basis for the planned studies will be a partial group of the Dortmund Nutritional and Anthropometric Longitudinally Designed Study (DONALD study) are used, which provides the necessary research data on the basis of 3-day weighed dietary records and 24-hour urines.
