Project
Project code: 2818OE089
Contract period: 01.09.2019
- 31.12.2021
Budget: 194,905 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: animal, database, guidelines, certification, knowledge management
According to the new EU Regulation on organic farming from 2018, starting from January 1st, 2021 each EU Member State must provide a database which lists the national available organic animals and juvenile aquaculture animals transparently. This database is similar to the database for organically propagated seed, which has been obligatory for all member states since 2004 (EU regulation 834/2007 and EC Regulation 889/2008). In order to meet the requirements of Art. 26 of the EU Regulation 2018/848 and the corresponding implementing regulations, which will come into force on January 1st, 2021, the aim of the project is to develop a compliant database for organic animals and juvenile aquaculture animals. The database should be accessible to all interested parties, including farmers, traders, suppliers, the control bodies and competent authorities to provide them a quick and efficient way to check the availability of organic and juvenile aquaculture animals. Additionally suppliers can list their available animals and farmers can request, if necessary, a derogation for buying conventional animals. Therefore, the database will become a central source of information and platform for various animal species and serves as a basis for the reporting to the EU Commission about granted derogations. An extension of the database and its use by authorities in other European countries is planned in order to support the harmonization of databases for organic animals and juvenile aquaculture animals and the resulting derogation procedure in the European market.
