Hydro-Agrar-Solar - Construction of an agricultural photovoltaic system with subsurface drip irrigation with simultaneous agricultural use (Hydro-Agrar-Solar)
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-SA-2021-LPTLGM
Contract period: 01.01.2021
- 31.12.2023
Budget: 421,095 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Farming practice/activity, farming equipment, plant production and horticulture, soil, water, energy, general climate change
The project Hydro-Agrar-Solar has the aim to combine the production of energy and food within optimizing the agricultural production. Especially under the viewpoint of future climate change. To achieve that goal there will be a use of combined agro-solar-panels and Underground drip Irrigation. The main advantage of the agro-solar-panels is the possibility of dual use, so you can produce solar energy and still use the space for agricultural production. Due to this dual use landscape management can be optimized and be way more efficient than before. The solar energy, which is produced finds direct usage in the drip irrigation, so there is no need for a separate energy delivery and the system functions self-sufficient. Regarding to dry periods, which were present all over Europe and Germany in the past years this system can help minimizing the losses of dry periods to come in the near future. In addition, there are synergy effects by using both systems combined for example in water efficiency and expand agricultural manufacturing.
