Practical testing and evaluation of current precision farming sowing and fertilisation technology among contra (DigitalFarming)
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-NRW-2020-LPTLGMPPG, REFORDAT-490
Contract period: 01.01.2020
- 31.12.2022
Budget: 488,975 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming practice/activity, farming equipment, plant production and horticulture, fertilisation, product/service
Modern sowing machines, fertiliser and plant protection technology are now technically capable of precisely dosing and varying crop cultivation measures on the basis of digital application maps, depending on the specific sub-area and location. Such precision farming technology is currently used primarily on large farms with large field structures outside NRW, while many practitioners in the federal state have not yet seen its advantages, are afraid of the associated costs and can still be convinced of the trouble-free interaction of the components, the accuracy of the application maps and the multi-farm applicability. This project should close gaps in knowledge and experience in agricultural practice regarding precision farming applications and to support the introduction of precision farming technology on farms in NRW. To this end, the project will focus on the practical test, the evaluation of costs and benefits including ecological advantages and on the identification of approaches for the further development of current precision farming sowing and fertilisation technology in multi-farm use and will train interested practitioners in handling and participating in these.
