Agri-PV Field Garden
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-NI-2023-EKW
Contract period: 01.01.2023
- 31.12.2025
Budget: 498,526 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: energy climate change
Agri-PV represents a process for the simultaneous use of land for crop production and photovoltaics. According to current knowledge, this can become an important building block for the energy transition. From the perspective of an agricultural business, there are challenges that still need to be solved for practical implementation. The aim of the project is to develop a practical and sustainable concept for agri-PV systems, considering the complex interactions of crop rotation, field dimensioning and infrastructure design. The crop rotation concept is to be based on the principle of the traditional farmer's garden with annually rotating plantings. Different field configurations (crop production concept, use of machinery, infrastructure and dimensioning) will be investigated with the help of a simulation tool. Which combinations of these design parameters make economic and ecological sense can then be derived from the study results. In addition, a road map for R&D on combined concepts of crop production with robotics within Agri-PV systems will be developed.
