Purpose of research: Experimental development

Central Tyre Inflation Systems for agricultural vehicles lack precision and/or control rate when adjusting tyre pressures due to pressure measurement outside the tyre. By developing a feasible technique to detect the tyre inflation pressure inside the tyre, the disadvantages of current technology shall be solved. Thus, reliability, preci-sion and control rate shall be improved. The principle of Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems with pressure sensors inside the tyre cavity has been adapted for agricultural vehicles. Inductive power transmission inside the existing pneumatic rotary union provides the battery-less continuous power supply for the sensors. The developed technique was able to exceed expectations during lab tests. A field test had to be cancelled due to reliability issues of the evaluation model's electronics. Further development requires the acquisition of an interested industry partner. The technique and the resulting components have been patented.
