VIP - Vorpommern Initiative for Paludiculture- sub-project 3: Energetic use of biomass
Project
Project code: 033L030C
Contract period: 01.09.2010
- 31.08.2013
Budget: 229,873 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
In close cooperation with the University of Greifswald (DUENE WP 5/1/4), this subproject examines the fuel properties and characteristics of the biomass from Paludiculture to compare itwith conventional bio fuels. On this basis, the necessary measures of pretreatment of “Paludi fuels” are determined, as well as suitable conditioning. The mutual dependencies of analysis values and treatment measurements are identified to achieve an optimal compaction of briquettes and pellets. Selected “Paludi fuels” will be burnt in a test facility and the combustion characteristics, combustion efficiency and gas emissions will be analyzed. These results will provide insight for optimal preconditioning of the fuel. Based on this outcome, combustion experiments run in commercial facilities will be scientifically supported and suggestions for further improvement concerning conditioning and combustion processes will be delivered. To enable knowledge transfer of the gained results to other combustion facilities, potential technical and legal dilemmas for the energetic utilization will be analyzed. Guidance for a large-scale combustion will be developed.
