Modam (Multi-Objective Decision Support Tool for Agroecosystem Management) - Himalaya - Ecosystem Research for Sustainable Development in the Biodiversity Hotspots of India
Project
Project code: ZALF-382
Contract period: 01.06.2006
- 31.05.2020
Purpose of research: Applied research
The success of conservation activities in biodiversity hotspot-areas depends on the close cooperation with the people living in this regions, many of them being extremely poor and living on less than one dollar a day. As most households are engaged in agricultural production to gain their livelihood and rely on ecosystem services, living resources have a unique place in indigenous cultures. In short, many people and many species share a common vulnerability and struggle for their survival in this areas. Our approach is based on the principle of sustainable development and aims to integrate ecological as well as socioeconomic aspects of farm management activities in this areas.
