Collaborative project: Precise fertilizer application for maize sowing. Subproject 1 (PUDAMA)
Project
Project code: 2818105615
Contract period: 05.10.2016
- 28.02.2020
Budget: 444,678 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: Phosphorus, nitrate, nitrogen, mineral fertilizer, row fertilizer
Increasing fertiliser efficiency requires the review of established practices and the use of new techniques and methods. The cooperative project PuDaMa of the TH Köln and the Kverneland Group Soest has resulted in an innovative system for precise fertiliser application in maize cultivation, for which a patent application has been filed. After the successful completion of the development and laboratory tests, the system was implemented in a conventional precision seed drill. It was tested in spring 2019 in the field under various conditions and its functionality was proven. This technical development was accompanied by manual field trials to verify the relevance of this innovative fertiliser application method for crop production. The precise application method showed potential fertilizer savings of up to 50 % compared to the conventional banded application without negative yield influences. A significant yield increase of 6 to 7 % was also documented by applying the same fertilisation amount in a more precise way.
