Purpose of research: Applied research
The project’s innovative approach is the use of passive, robust and durable SAW transponders with localization and switching functionality in combination with energy-efficient wear-free electronically scanned phased array antennas. The system for wireless animal localization and identification operates in the 2.4 GHz ISM band. NeckTag transponders have been developed and successfully validated under laboratory as well as practical conditions. A data base model and software has been designed to process, manage and visualize the recorded space-time data. An interface to the decision support tool of the farm management system (FMS) HERDE has been established. The developed phased array antenna has been validated under laboratory conditions and has been installed as demonstrator at the research barn in Köllitsch. The recorded space-time data has not yet reached a sufficient accuracy and repeatability level to derive animal physiological conditions that can be integrated into the FMS.
