The Corona-PRO project developed a new method for the spatially-adaptive application of plant protection products (PPPs) for commercial fruit growing. This involved calculating the tree geometry of individual fruit trees and fruit wall sections (crown height, volume and leaf area) using high-resolution automated UAV aerial photography. The aim was to digitally reconstruct the structure of plantations as accurately as possible through photogrammetric evaluation. This enables the application by the crop protection sprayer to be controlled on a site-specific basis using application maps. Corona-PRO is a map-based approach (offline concept). This means that the evaluation of sensor data can be outsourced to a service provider, who then provides application maps as a result.
