Purpose of research: Basic research

Infectious diseases are in the worldwide poultry farming a significant problem of animal health, animal welfare and food safety and lead to high financial losses. To the health of poultry stocks to increase must be effective breeding programs and new vaccination strategies should be developed. The aim of the project FugatoPlus part AvImmun is using new methods of functional genomic information on the development and function of B-cell system and thus an essential component of the immune system at the chicken to win. B-cells produce antibodies to the host before pathogenic micro-organisms. Error in the activation of B cells lead to immunodeficiency, one of the main reasons for high livestock losses in the poultry-intensive farming. Inherited B-cell defects of unknown origin have repeatedly been described and acquired defects caused by the viral conditional B-cell depletion in the context of infections with Marek viral or bursitis are a common problem Under this project, using transkriptomischer and analyses proteomic candidate genes identified, essential to the regulation of B-cell system could be involved. The function of these genes will then be using a new in vivo gene tranfer technique (RCAS technology) through expression or siRNA mediated 'Gene silencing' analysed. Functionally relevant candidate genes can in cooperation with the poultry vaccine industry and poultry enterprises in the search for new vakzination strategies as adjuvants (helping vaccine) and a selection of resistance markers in breeding further developed.
