Interlaboratory comparison - assessment of a quantitative nanomaterial definition (ILC)
Project
Project code: MRI-LBV-08-1032 Laborvergleichsuntersuchung
Contract period: 01.05.2017
- 30.11.2017
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The objective of the ILC is to assess the fitness for purpose of the developed standard operation procedures (SOP) to determine whether 50 % of the particles in a particulate material are smaller than 100 nm. Number-based and mass-based size distributions will be monitored depending on the measurement method. Between-laboratory reproducibility of the methods will be assessed. The department of food technology and bioprocess engineering participates at the following three ILCs: • Field Flow Fractionation coupled to ICP-MS: measurement of TiO2 particles in sunscreen by AF4-MALS-ICP-MS • Single particle ICP-MS: measurement of three samples (TiO2 particles in suspension, TiO2 particles in sunscreen, and Al2O3 particles in toothpaste) • Electron microscopy Image analysis of pre-recorded TEM images by the software ImageJ
