Contract period: 01.03.2008 - 28.02.2011
Budget: 113,271 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research

'With RePoRI (development of genetic markers for resistance to respiratory infections in pigs) was an extension of the current project IRAS (infection and resistance in the respiratory tract of the pig) approved. This was necessary because i) the results from the IRAS hypothesis, that a selection of breeding pigs in increased resistance to respiratory infections is possible and ii) was foreseeable that a final identification of meaningful genetic markers in the IRAS in the available time frame would not be possible. Within the RePoRI association is carrying out the following activities planned: - Bred a segregierenden F2-parent family from Hampshire breeds of animals and Deutsche country race, - Aero genes load the F2 animals, subsequent clinical, phenotypic and pathological anatomy characterization (as in established IRAS), - Expression analysis of the lymph nodes and / or lungs of animals in the extreme quartiles, - Genotyping of F0, F1 and F2 animals, - QTL analysis and identification of potential candidate genes positioning - EQTL analysis, - Identification and characterization of functional and pseudofunktionaler SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms ) - Modeling the pathogen-host interactions and building on the development of hypotheses on the cause of host resistance. With these proposed works in RePoRI the results from IRAS extent complemented and deepened, that the creation of a SNP array prototype for genotyping to such alleles associated with the resistance to respiratory infections are associated possible. Following extensive testing under production conditions, the results of such an SNP arrays in a few years as a supplementary feature included in the breeding value in basic farms. '''
