Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-BR-2017-LPTPD01
Contract period: 01.01.2017

Budget: 922,363 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming practice/activity, animal husbandry, product/service
For assessing animal welfare behavior and health of animals are evaluated. This could be made by measuring direct, animal-related indicators or with elaborately and expensively indirect indicators. The project aims to implement and validate a system for automated measurement, analysis and evaluation of animal welfare of dairy cattle on farms in Brandenburg. Basis for the system shall be the individual and sensor technical acquisition of physiological measurement parameters of the animal by using an ear tag system called smardwatch®. The collected data are assessed subsequently by a chronobiological regulation diagnosis and have to be presented in form of an animal welfare traffic lights system. The animal welfare traffic light is an objective, animal-individual and real-time capable assessment system and shall be linked to existing herd management systems. As a result, information regarding optimization of animal welfare for each individual farm and recommendations on fertility and animal health have to be elaborated. Furthermore, the animal welfare traffic light system shall be integrated into the value chain of Brandenburg.
