Collaborative project: Set-up of methods monitoring Flavescence dorée and assessing any risks in German viticulture through autochtonous host plants as infection sources as regards spreading of the vector Scaphoideus titanus. Subproject 2 (FlavePrevent)
Project
Project code: 2815NA185
Contract period: 01.05.2018
- 30.04.2021
Budget: 179,136 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: viticulture, plant protection, phytoplasms, sustainable agriculture
The overall objective of the project is to evaluate and optimize methods for the reliable diagnosis and characterization of the pathogens associated with the quarantine disease Flavescence dorée (FD) of grapevine with respect to their application by the vine protection services in Germany, and to develop information for the assessment of the risks which could emerge from grapevines which may be infected by phytoplasmas of the 16SrV group originating from autochthonous host plants. This question has gained importance with the first occurrence of the vector of the FD in 2016 in the immediate vicinity of German wine-growing areas, since the coincidence of the vector with infected vines poses the risk of epidemic outbreaks of the FD.
The work is carried out:
- to provide the vine protection services with a reliable method for the detection of FD in vine yield and propagation plants;
- make it possible to assess the risk of infection of vines from wild host plants infected with FD-related phytoplasms;
- lay the groundwork for targeted monitoring and improved risk assessment in connection with the expected future occurrence of the FD vector in Germany.
