Timing in plant-pollinator interactions (SFB 1047, C4)
Project
Project code: 208233609
Contract period: 01.01.2013
- 31.12.2017
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: animal ecology, biodiversity, ecosystem research
The first aim of project C4 is to reveal the triggers that are involved in the synchronisation of plant-pollinator interactions. We will study the interactions of temperature, photoperiod, energy reserves and internal clock in triggering the circannual and circadian emergence rhythmicity of solitary bees. The second aim is to study in a plant-pollinator system the fitness risks and gains that arise from being active very early in the season, when only few alternative interaction partners are present. Thirdly, we will investigate the circannual and circadian synchronisation of male and female bees, and the consequences for mating success.
