Digitization of the Performance test for Animal Genetic Resources - Precision Animal Breeding
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-SH-2018-GR
Contract period: 01.01.2018
- 31.12.2020
Budget: 373,249 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: genetic resource
The aim of the project is the introduction of precision breeding for endangered domestic breeds with the help of breeding parameters selected in practice. For this purpose, the OG wants to work with researchers and practitioners to digitally record the performance characteristics of four endangered domestic animal breeds in Schleswig-Holstein for the first time. The relationship between genotype and phenotype with the parameters calving ease, milkability, udder health and fertility ought to be developed for the Red Holstein in dual-use and the Angler cattle. The development of performance characteristics of fattening and meat quality are planned for the Angler Saddle Pig and the German White-Headed Mutton Sheep. The development of an app for collecting health data is scheduled for trial by practitioners in the project and may be extended to other populations after successful use.
