Collaborative project: Smart and open components for digitalization in food production - subproject C (OsKoNa)

Project

Project code: 281A509C19
Contract period: 01.10.2020 - 30.09.2023
Budget: 354,510 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: food technology, food engineering, agricultural engineering, digital world, crop production

Aim of the OsKoNa project is to develop and implement a comprehensive stack of smart components for usage in food production, reaching over the application layers IoT, edge, mobile edge cloud, cloud and metacloud. This enables digital end-to-end function flow over all data acquisition, aggregation, communication and storage levels of agricultural and food production by using this "building blocks of smart food data management". Application of stack components spreads from onbord situations on agrcultural machinery and it's proximity, immobile facilities and centralized cloud and metacloud instances. Harmonized interfaces make possible to orchestrate smart services flexible on demand. By application of a strict component model with defined interfaces and responsibilities of every building block a structured software infrastructure becomes available. At the module boundaries security and plausibility rules are applicable to ensure a secure and consistent system. The open component concept empowers farmers and other production process stakeholders about the acquired data and communication infrastructure. In addition to the traditional method to apply a cloud service provided by third parties, OsKoNa introduces the opportunity to run agricultural and food data and communication services under own responsibility of the stakeholders. Harmonized open concepts, components and interfaces provide a maximum of interoperability and control.
