Production processes

Project code: JKI-RS-08-3396b
Contract period: 01.11.2019 - 31.10.2022
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The overall goal of GeneBank2.0 is to leverage the wheat ex-situ collection hosted at the IPK Gatersleben to an actively deployed one in plant breeding by applying an integrated concept encompassing cutting-edge genomics, phenomics, biodiversity informatics, and precision (pre)breeding.

The goal is to characterize the winter wheat ex-situ collection (ca. 9,700 accessions) of the IPK Gatersleben to identify novel resistances which are not present in wheat elite cultivars. Accessions are phenotyped in field trials and greenhouse experiments regarding leaf rust and stripe rust tolerance and high throughput techniques (robotic platform Macrobot) is used to analyse detached leaf assays. Resistant genotypes are characterized using microscopical and molecular techniques and phenotypic data are used for mapping resistances via GWAS. Field data of the first years are available as well as data obtained by the Macrobot.
