Collaborative project: Development of a digital monitoring system for EU regulated non-quarantine pests in orchards and fruit breeding - subproject C (MONIQUA)
Project
Project code: 2818712C19
Contract period: 01.03.2021
- 29.02.2024
Budget: 126,244 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: quarantine pathogens, monitoring, pome, data collection, digital world, product quality, fruit production, resource protection, resource efficiency, crop protection, plant health
The project is aimed on the establishment of a digital monitoring system for the early detection and localization of quarantine diseases in commercial fruit orchards. For this purpose, large numbers of spatially high-resolution images of species-specific disease symptoms will be recorded at different stages of development in apple and pear orchards. Initially, the focus is on detection of leaf symptoms. Infected plants can be located accurately using Global Positioning System (GPS) within the area. In addition, the course of the diseases will be connected with geographic information from the weather services. The long-term goal of the project is the establishment of a labor-saving and cost-effective high-throughput process as a control system for fruit production and breeding, which enables continuous spatial recording and documentation of infections caused by quarantine pathogens.
