PlaWaKiRi - The use of plasma water against claw infections in cattle (PlaWaKiRi)
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-Ni-2020-THSKB
Contract period: 01.01.2020
- 31.12.2022
Budget: 459,977 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: animal husbandry, pest/disease control
In the scope of the project, an alternative, antibiotic-free therapy against the pathogen of the claw disease Mortellaro (dermatitis digitalis) is to be developed and tested under practical conditions by using the technology of cold atmospheric pressure plasmas. Through the collaboration of partners from the public and private sectors - research institutions and end users - the project thus serves the EIP's call for agricultural innovation as part of a research cooperation. The aim of the project is to reduce or completely avoid the use of antibiotics and biocides in the therapy of Mortellaro disease in dairy cows under the premise of improving animal welfare by means of a plasma-based therapeutic process. With the successful implementation of the project, the use of antibiotics can be reduced or avoided both in conventionally and organically managed dairy cattle stables. The project thus makes a contribution beyond the usual further development of conventional methods and provides a relevant building block for the barn of the future.
