Evaluation of the common agricultural policy from an environmental perspective III (GAPEVAL III)
Project
Project code: JKI-SF-08-1288
Contract period: 01.07.2020
- 30.06.2023
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Agriculture is the largest user of land in Germany and has numerous positive and negative effects on the protected goods soil, water, air and climate. In order to implement the environmental and nature conservation objectives on agricultural land, greening is used within the framework of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to supplement agri-environmental support. In the project GAPEVAL3 we assess the effects of the CAP reform on abiotic resource protection in Germany. The focus is particularly on the effects of greening on the design and implementation of greening. Within the project, the JKI will conduct regional risk assessments with SYNOPS-GIS and analyse the effects of the CAP reform and changes in cultivation conditions on environmental risk. In previous projects it was shown that the environmental effects (e.g. erosion, or the effect of PPP on non-target organisms) of agriculture depend very much on the interaction of land use, specific management, local site conditions and weather. While the concrete management at the site can still only be depicted on the basis of sample surveys, the other factors can increasingly be better depicted over a wide area or the uncertainties can be estimated. However, this requires further development of the existing models. The aim of this research project is (a) to significantly extend the time series on agricultural land use in Germany, (b) to identify the causes of the changes and to quantify the influence of the individual factors (c) and to evaluate the changes in land use during the observation period with regard to their impact on abiotic protected assets. The analysis focuses on questions of abiotic resource protection.
