Production processes

Project code: JKI-BI-08-1276
Contract period: 15.04.2021 - 14.04.2024
Purpose of research: Applied research

The invasive cherry vinegar fly, Drosophila suzukii, has became a main pest in stone fruit and berry fruit production. Effective biological methods for Regulation of this pest do not exist yet. Aim of the proposed research is to develop a product on the basis of specific natural enemies. Native pupal parasitoids shall be applied in inundative releases in berry crops, especially under net protection. In order to achieve this objective, various steps need to be developed:
1) the provision of parasitoids in sufficient quantities needs an efficient and quality-ensuring mass rearing method. 2) The best stage of development of the beneficials must be found for the release, as well as required application quantities and application frequencies. 3) The effectiveness of releases should first be carried out in a practical trial and after optimization tested in practice, also taking into account necessary pesticide applications.
