For several years there has been a lack of protein-rich feed, while the demand for regionally produced food of animal origin has increased. This ´protein gap´ is closed by importing soybean meal, which has been proven to have a harmful ecological and socio-economic footprint. In addition to the global effects, the serious extent of land consumption and the immense losses due to food waste also affect the regional ´eco-agricultural balance´. The circular economy has considerable potential to represent the key of the future to a sustainable value chain. Above all, insects naturally help us to close regional cycles that are difficult to achieve with conventional livestock. The aim of the present project is to show the ´Vision INSECTs´ for the expansion of bioeconomic processes through regional production, by testing by-products for their suitability for the production of the larval meal of the black soldier fly and developing recommendations for agricultural practice for animal feeding and fertilization
