Project code: 2821ABS400
Contract period: 01.09.2022 - 31.08.2025
Budget: 499,316 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: crop production, fertilization, emissions, climate protection, farmyard manure

The project 'Acid+ in the field' contributes to the field of action 'Fertilisation' of the Arable Farming Strategy 2035 as well as to the National Clean Air Programme. The acidification of slurry and digestate when applied to existing crops reduces ammonia emissions, increases the effectiveness of the nitrogen contained in slurry and digestate and can help to reduce nitrogen surpluses. The aim of the model and demonstration project is, - to establish a Germany-wide network of model farms representing a variety of structures, on which the technology of acidification for manure and digestate is used and demonstrated, - to investigate and evaluate the effects on nutrient efficiency, soil and plants in a sufficiently large number of (exact) field and on-farm trials at different locations and with different crops, as well as - to present farmers and contractors with practical solutions through various knowledge transfer measures such as field demonstrations, lectures, seminars, social media and to provide advice on the operational safe and successful use of the technology. In addition, from a plant cultivation perspective, the extent to which the additional use of sulphur-containing mineral fertilisers becomes redundant and the availability of phosphorus is improved by acidification is examined.
