The PhD study aims to investigate innovative agricultural upgrading strategies for plant and animal production in Tanzania. The impact of the strategies is examined by means of data consolidation, context-based cost-benefit maximization and impact theory. Decision-making processes in agriculture require a choice between alternative courses of action. Possible alternatives could be different combinations of crops under cultivation, alternative production systems in plant and animal production as well as different marketing and financial strategies. The three-year doctoral thesis is supervised by ZALF, Humboldt University Berlin and Sokoine University (Tanzania). Field work and data collection take place in Tanzania.
