Collaborative project: Health promotion in poultry at different production stages - minimizing drug use by bacteriophages - subproject A (MideAPhage)
Project
Project code: 281C401A21
Contract period: 02.02.2023
- 31.01.2026
Budget: 368,789 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: poultry, antibiotics, prevention, animal husbandry, animal nutrition, bacteriology, therapy, diagnostics
The project aims to develop an innovative bacteriophage (phage) product that can be used across all poultry production stages to reduce Enterococcus-associated clinical diseases in poultry farming. Phages represent a resource-saving and natural alternative to treatment with antibiotics and their antibacterial effect has already been demonstrated on a laboratory scale. The phage product to be developed in this project aims to reduce the early colonization of animals with Enterococci in order to reduce clinical diseases that occur later. In this way, poultry health should be promoted and the use of antibiotics minimized.
