Collaborative project: Development of a computer based model for effective European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) control – Subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2814203606
Contract period: 01.04.2007
- 31.03.2010
Budget: 340,796 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
A computer based prognosis model for European corn borer control is developed in cooperation between the Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants (JKI) and proPlant company (Münster). If such a prognosis model will be available for farmers, efficacy of European corn borer control measures can be increased and number and extent of control measures can be reduced. This means that especially the use of chemical insecticides can be reduced, which will have a positive effect on consumers' health as well as on the environment. First, data regarding the phenology of the European corn borer have to be collected by JKI. ProPlant will use these data sets to first develop and later on to optimize the prognosis model. The first version of the prognosis model was available in May 2008 and was evaluated by own field studies in summer 2008. This evaluation process will be repeated in 2009 for the second version of the prognosis model. The finalized version will be brought on the market by proPlant.
