Project code: 2815304407
Contract period: 01.06.2008
- 31.12.2008
Budget: 10,755 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Infections of leaves by plant diseases depend on a high degree on leaf wetness duration. Measured leaf wetness is often not available. An alternative method to obtain information about the leaf wetness is the simulation, using standard meteorological data. Furthermore frequent spatially and temporally limited rainfalls (convective rainfall event) often slip through the meteorological network in the present system. To reduce this limitation the quality of radar measured precipitation data in a spatial resolution of one square kilometre as input for leaf wetness simulation models was analysed. In the system RADOLAN the precipitation intensity measured by radar is calibrated online with data from a network of ombrometers, using mathematic algorithms. The complexity of RADOLAN requires a validation. It took place in intensely used agricultural areas, for which the DWD radar grid was spatially joined with the meteorological network. In this way it was possible to relate each station to a grid cell. The derived precipitation given by RADOLAN at the station's grid cell and the actually measured independent data formed the basis for the statistical verification.
