Impact of diversified crop rotation on invertebrates
Project
Project code: Vergabe-Nr.08/039.1.
Contract period: 01.08.2008
- 30.09.2010
Budget: 86,501 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
'The significance of the agri-environmental measure „diversified crop rotation” on the protection of abiotic resources is well accepted. Positive results of this measure – especially on certain invertebrates - are predicted. However, substantial evaluation is difficult since only few studies have dealt with this topic so far. Studies at certain reference farms will reveal appropriate indicators to evaluate the impact of this agri-environmental measure on the biodiversity of different trophic levels. The aim of this study is to analyse the effects of diversified crop rotation on phytophagous and carnivore invertebrates in contrast to farms practicing more simplified crop rotation. Studies will be conducted in regions in North Rhine-Westphalia were many farmers
participate this agri-environmental measure. Diversity of invertebrate coenoses will be recorded. Furthermore fitness parameters of certain species will be measured to discover the health of the populations and the habitat quality. Factors affecting the composition of coenoses will be determined by multivariate statistics including certain abiotic parameters. On the basis of these results suggestions on the evaluation and improvement of the agrienvironmental measure “diversified crop rotation” will be made.'
