Nano-scale Food Contact Materials
Project
Project code: MRI-LBV-08-52
Contract period: 01.06.2008
- 31.12.2010
Purpose of research: Applied research
The use of nano-scale food contact materials is expected to grow. Nano-scale materials in packaging are used among others to improve mechanical properties, to reduce layer thickness, to increase barrier properties for gases and moisture and to create transparent UV protection. Nano-scale coating are used to improve surface properties (improve scratch-resistance, create self-cleaning properties, create biocide surfaces). Because almost no information on migration of nanomaterials into food products is currently available, such studies using model systems are performed. If migration of nanomaterials is observed effects on human health will be studied.
