Purpose of research: Experimental development
The interest of docile and easy to handle pigs is growing regarding the changes in husbandry systems. Therefore behavioural traits like docility, temperament and aggressiveness reached breeders attention. The aim of the study will be to develop in cooperation with a commercial breeding organisation (BHZP, Bundeshybridzuchtprogramm) an innovative breeding program under consideration of traits of behaviour. The following work steps will be done: 1. measuring traits of direct economical value (performance traits) and behaviour in breeding and production stock, 2. estimation of genetic parameters and selection of most promising traits, 3. breeding value estimation and integration into new breeding schemes and 4. estimation of the expected economical outcome and breeding success.
