Project
Project code: 06OE085
Contract period: 16.04.2007
- 31.07.2009
Budget: 119,844 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Entitled Extending Regional Supply Chains to Boost Retail Sales of Organically Produced Vegetables, this project seeks to (further) develop quality standards and build effective, efficient supply chains in the organic sector. It aims to support domestic agriculture, sustainably bring to market more organically produced foods of German origin, and boost their sales. The project executing organisation Bioland Markt GmbH and associated food and organic food retailers are modeling the project’s objectives for the vegetable product segment (including potatoes) in four different regions of Germany. Working to devise a system for shaping regional vegetable supply chains, they have drafted a range of measures for everyone from growers (for example, coordinating crop planning) to sellers (for example, promoting products at the point of sale). Methods of empirical social research, especially marketing research, provide the data for these efforts.
