Project code: REFORDAT-68, II-1-F 41-2011.04
Contract period: 12.07.2011 - 31.05.2013
Budget: 78,190 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

In integrated production fruits are treated among others with fungicides in order to avoid yield and quality losses pre- and postharvest. The treatments are terminated prior to harvest so that the chemicals can be degraded or metabolized in time. However, residues below legally accepted limits may be detected. This hampers marketing, since freedom of residues is demanded at present. In this situation the innovative approach of the project proposed aims at the residue free state of organically produced fruits without the risks, reduced yield and losses in storage. This is to be achieved by a suitable, time- appropriate combination of plant protection measures according to integrated and organic production, respectively. Thus, production of apple fruits free of direct contact with synthetic pesticides will be assured. Various treatments with different timing of plant protection measures will be examined. From the results to be expected future instructions for the growers will be developed.
