Project code: BfR-PRS-08-1334-203
Contract period: 01.08.2010 - 31.07.2013
Purpose of research: Applied research

NanoGEM is going to analyze biological effects of nanomaterials with the goal to describe possible hazards for humans qualitatively and quantitatively. NanoGEM will built on the fundament established in the project NanoCare and further extent the knowledge by addressing certain additional issues. For the first time there will be a detailed evaluation of the effects triggered by systematic changes in surface properties. One main focus of NanoGEM lies in the elucidation of the structure dependency of the effects induced. For the first time an individual workpackage will deal with data evaluation dedicated to develop risk assessment strategies. Finally a preliminary risk assessment will be performed. To this end suitable measurement procedures will be identified. Furthermore reliable SOPs will be developed. Currently there are still some open issues to be solved with regard to the reproducibility in nanomaterial testing.NanoGEM consists of 7 individual workpackages, which are interconnected and which will intensively exchange. The consortium comprises different partners offering an academic, industrial or regulatory background, thus ensuring that a broad range of different approaches and methods can be covered.
