Examination of tissue growth, fattening and slaughter performance and product quality of different genetic backgrounds and their breeding suitability for organic pork production
Project
Project code: 2803OE323
Contract period: 01.09.2004
- 31.05.2007
Budget: 256,047 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project is to examine the exact experimental conditions, whether or to what extent genotype-environment interactions at local saddle and pigs, as well as modern hybrids with respect to selected criteria of growth, development, the mast and carcass yield and product quality (including sensors and analysis of the fatty acid pattern) are present. In several passages fattening pigs of different origins are tested simultaneously under organic and conventional conditions. Additionally be analyzed under ecological conditions fattened pigs by nuclear magnetic resonance imaging for muscle growth and fat. From the results, recommendations for ecologically-oriented breeding programs are derived in the pig. In addition to use concepts for endangered breeds of pigs are derived. Finally, a workshop will be conducted.
