Effects of different proportions of Duroc-finishing period origins in aspects of growth performance and carcass quality under organic production conditions

Project

Project code: 2806OE103
Contract period: 02.07.2007 - 31.08.2009
Budget: 122,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

In organic meat production is of consultants and marketers repeatedly called for the consideration of the Duroc breed in the production of fattening origins. In support of the favorable attitude of properties, but also has positive effects on meat quality are mentioned. In terms of carcass quality, however, a tendency to decrease in lean meat percentage is expected, which makes the marketing principle. The funded project involves systematic studies of the effects of various gene proportion Duroc on growth performance and carcass / meat quality under organic production conditions. There are four intersections with 0, 25, 50 and 75% Duroc-share in two rounds to test. Furthermore, parameters for growth performance, to collect carcasses, meat and fat quality. The results of the optimal proportion of Duroc with respect to the two opposing poles marketing 'lean meat' and 'meat quality' is derived. The project aims at providing a basis for rational decision making underpinned the selection of mast origins in organic pork production.
