Project code: 2807HS032
Contract period: 01.03.2008 - 31.08.2011
Budget: 74,543 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

Diagnosing botulism is time consuming and is performed by only a few institutions in Germany. The results of different laboratories seem to diverge causing controversial discussion. Comparative testing is the first step in standardising diagnostics. Samples spiked with contaminating toxins and organisms will be produced by the FLI and sent to the participating laboratories. Detection of both neurotoxin and C. botulinum are performed considering relevant toxin types and the matrices feces and animal feed. This project is a first step toward the initiation of standardising diagnostics of botulism in animals.
