Vegetative propagation of the Nordmann fir
Project
Project code: 2805MD002
Contract period: 01.04.2005
- 30.06.2008
Budget: 440,000 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
In the following project goals are to be processed: The pilot project is based on the results of the BMVEL research project 'Development of a biotechnological method of propagation for Nordmann Fir' (Abies nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach). The aim of the pilot project is to enable the implementation of somatic embryogenesis in practice the proliferation of Christmas trees, the development of uniclonal. This would have significant, the environmental-friendly effects and economic benefits, since the varieties might be selected site specific and demand driven. This would make it possible, for example, make extensive mechanical and chemical treatment processes (including growth regulation length, shape cuts) to the growing need for regular field and enhance the yield of marketable trees by locally adapted varieties and market conditions considerably. Much more than today could this special culture an income alternative in agriculturally less favored areas and thus be a further element of a success-oriented multifunctional agriculture. The cultivation period from an average of 6 years makes for Christmas trees, the division into two possible sequential model projects required: In the first pilot project (3 years) will increase in large-scale scientific experiments selected clones, generated in large volumes seedlings from mature embryos and explored the possibilities of further cultivation under nursery conditions and the basis of somatic embryogenesis are methodically developed. In this project covered by the present decision. About a possible second phase (testing of the entire production cycle in pre-industrial scale in a commercial laboratory and the start of a trial production in connection with an economic analysis of the process), is decided upon presentation of their results.
