DUKAT 1: Genetic fingerprinting and population dynamics of the small hive beetle
Project
Project code: 2805HS028
Contract period: 18.05.2005
- 17.07.2005
Budget: 22,891 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
The aim of the project are the first steps for the development of DNA fingerprinting and a detailed knowledge of the population dynamics of the pest in the United States. For this, the natural infection of people depending on Koloniephänotypen, distance to other apiaries and food storage is detected. It will be evaluated according to international standard procedures and abgesammelt the beetles. New controls enable an assessment of re-infection and the influence of various factors (colony size and distance to food storage). In the United States is extracted from freshly caught animals DNA and transferred for further investigations to Halle. Therefore a stay in the U.S. is necessary. Work will be performed by a research assistant and coordinator DUKAT.
