Evaluation of a heat treated mix of legume seeds for poultry nutrition
Project
Project code: 2811NA035
Contract period: 01.08.2012
- 31.12.2015
Budget: 132,362 Euro
Purpose of research: Basic research
The objective of this study is the assessment of a mix of thermally treated legume seeds (“Legumi-Therm”) for poultry diets. The investigation is distributed into 3 parts to describe the feed value. Studies of digestibility with broilers, laying hens and turkeys will be carried out to measure the contents of (a) metabolisable energy and (b) praecaecal digestible amino acids according to standard methods. The optimal inclusion level of the mix in diets for poultry will be investigated in feeding trials (c). In addition, the untreated legume seed mix (“Legumi-Mix”) will be tested by the same methods to evaluate the effect of heat treatment.
