Project code: REFORDAT-173, 17-02.04.01-3/2012
Contract period: 01.12.2012 - 30.11.2013
Budget: 79,700 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

Main objectives of the project 'Regionality in the Lower Rhine Region – Market Research in Awareness of Regionality and Potential Analysis' are (1) the analysis of the awareness of regionality in the Lower Rhine region and (2) the potential analysis of supply and demand of regional products from the Lower Rhine region. The Research Centre of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will initially pursue the question “What is the Lower Rhine region?”, followed by an analysis of the current state of supply and demand of regional, agricultural products. On the basis of this analysis, a well-grounded statement will be possible which areas of the Lower Rhine region are perceived by the public as part of the Lower Rhine. Together with the analysis of the current state, the potential of the agricultural sector of the Lower Rhine region will be highlighted. The project consists of three work packages. In the first work package, a consumer survey will be conducted to determine the demand of regional products and the awareness for regionality in the Lower Rhine region. Newer survey methods will be used in addition to classical survey instruments such as standardized questionnaires. Surveys via radio or social networks can be seen as especially innovative. They will be used particularly to target young people. Work package 2 focuses on the identification of the supply of products of the agricultural sector and the food industry in the Lower Rhine region for which producers and entrepreneurs will be interviewed in expert interviews. Literature research will be conducted in advance to get an impression of the current state of supply and distribution. In work package 3 data analysis and descriptive statistics will complete the project. A publication of the results is planned. The results of the scientific study are open-ended, so there are yet no binding plans for the exploitation of the results. The project results can offer answers to questions which are essential for the initiation and steering of further activities in the Lower Rhine region.
