Collaborative project: Improved control of Stempyphlium in asparagus by means of optimized termination of fungicides and improved spraying technique - subproject 1
Project
Project code: 2814702411
Contract period: 01.04.2013
- 31.03.2016
Budget: 144,765 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
"Clear improvements in the control of the main leaf disease of asparagus were achieved. Using conventional and molecular tools the causal pathogen could be identified as Stemphylium vesicarium. Based on newly generated biological data the model SIMSTEM was developed, simulating disease infection and progress under current weather conditions in individual fields. To apply fungicides according to the forecasting model a high performance application technology is needed. Horizontal booms as used in agricultural crops obtained a fast but uneven distribution of the fungicides on the crop. Therefore a new application system based on vertical booms was developed. The booms made from light plastic were mounted to the horizontal booms and achieved an even application with strongly reduced losses. Drift reducing air induction nozzles, at the top and the bottom as asymmetrical nozzles, were essential for a good performance of the system."
