Collaborative Project: Fungicide resistance in the grey mould fungus Botrytis cinerea: Identification of causes and development of anti-resistance strategies - Subproject 3
Project
Project code: 2814705911
Contract period: 01.03.2013
- 29.02.2016
Budget: 224,285 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
"Botrytis cinerea is the major pathogen in German soft fruit production and needs to be chemically controlled. In recent years, B. cinerea has developed fungicide resistance which increasingly compromised fungicide efficacy. In a three years innovation project (2013-15) funded by the BMEL, field, greenhouse and laboratory experiments were performed to determine the causes of fungicide resistance and to develop antiresistance strategies. A threatening increase of multiresistant fungal strains was observed; these strains were growing normally in the lab and escaped control by any of the registered fungicide. The most effective measures for containment of resistances were found to be i) the use of non-contaminated nursery plants, ii) reduced numbers of sprayings, iii) a complementary use of biologicals, and iv) rigorous sanitary measures in the fields. An apriori determination of the resistance situation in the fields was helpful to design more effective fungicide applications."
